PokémonGo has been released for iOS and Android since July 6, 2016 and counting. Having been out for a few weeks now in the US there has been some serious fun being had, as well as some questionable situations. If you are not familiar with the App or know very little about it then here is a bit of a broad overview.
The game is simple, catch ’em all, evolve them, battle them, the works! The game is based off the Pokemon franchise that has been around since 1996 that originated in Japan. The Pokémon company was a consortium between Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures. In the game you are a Pokémon Trainer, you catch Pokémon to train them and battle against each other for sport.
Since the release the game has had a few hiccups to say the least. From the servers constantly crashing to the gps feature failing to work, there has been a few updates to try and solve some of the problems which have seemed to cause more issues. One of the more recent issues with the current update has been the “loss” of some peoples accounts. That’s right, all those Pokemon, metals, level ups, evolution and the whole contents of your backpack are gone and you are starting from square one again.
Team Rockets blasting off again! Fear not, your account isn’t gone forever in the abyss that is cyberspace. You just have to get it back from team rocket by logging in with your original gmail account you used. Do not go through the portal, it will let you register using the same name you already used in the game and you will continue to believe your account is gone forever. Simply log in through your google gmail account and your account should still be there!
This most recent update also took away the “steps” that were supposedly meant to lead you to nearby Pokemon. Now, the nearby Pokemon have no designated distance but are allegedly within 70 meters of your location. It is unclear weather the pulses from around the box still tell you whether or not you are going in the right direction to catch any of the Pokemon in question.
Between the updates, the glitches, the meme war and the team rivalries, Pokemon go has caused what is best described as a Pokedemic. While a good majority of the aftermath of the game becoming so popular is positive, such as community building, socializing, and exercise, some of the effects are eerily negative such as disrespecting public property, and gangs of people using the app to jump/rob people at gun point.
There are major events being posted for Pokebar crawls, Pokewalks, Pokehunting get togethers and even Pokeraves/Pokeparties all over lately, and really who can be blamed for taking advantage of the hype when there’s just sooooo much of it! I myself even went to a popular park the other night that is known to be a charmander hotspot and the place was packed with other players and a healthy dose of lures and Pokemon to boot! So get out there and catch those Pokemon with all your friends! Build stronger friendships and have a blast while doing it, but make sure to stay aware of your surroundings and don’t trespass or get yourself into trouble while your at it!
